You’ve probably seen fitness people walking around with protein shakes and bars, and power foods tucked under their arms. It’s 100% true that diet is an integral part of fitness. After all, it doesn’t make sense to spend hours in the gym and then ruining it with burgers, fries and milkshakes. Exercise and diet go hand in hand. But its not all about protein shakes and power greens. There are some great protein foods that help anyone looking to develop their fitness journey. Eggs are great to put on your list. Besides being a staple of a fitness diet, they are also often given to people recovering from illnesses due to their benefits. They contain high amounts of protein and leucine (essential for muscle growth) as well as healthy fats and B vitamins (great for energy production.) Essentially, eggs help bolster energy and lean muscle. Chicken is another beloved muscle food. Many nutritionists and fitness food companies swear by lean chicken. Skin aside, it’s packed with protein, as well as B vitamins. Grilled or boiled chicken is basically a low fat, high protein source. Salmon has benefits for young and old fitness enthusiasts. As well as being full of protein, it also contains A and B vitamins, but also high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids which are great for healthy muscle. In addition, omega-3 is excellent for slowing down muscle degradation, meaning older fitness enthusiasts benefit far more. Pulses, beans, quinoa and edamame are all powerful greens which contain not only protein, but fiber, magnesium and iron. Put these beans into a salad and you have essential plant based proteins and nutrients that are going to help build muscle and a healthy immune system. A protein rich diet is great, but it’s important to also have a fitness routine that needs the protein. Without using all excess calories will turn into fat and will only contribute to a spare tyre around the waist. It’s also important to mix it up vary with with your food intake.
