Managing a Relationship When Funds Are Tight

Unless we have been left a few million, we are all going to go through a time when funds are short, or pretty much non-existent. Unfortunately, if we are in a relationship, our partners are also going to be in that hole with us. But rather than look at all the things we cannot do, one of the best ways that a relationship can withstand leaner times is to look at all of the avenues it opens. It gives us more time to spend with each other and to see and do things that can be appreciated without spending a penny.

One of the best ways to get creative in relationship is in the kitchen, and this is particularly true when we broke. Instead of lamenting that we can’t have a takeaway pizza, go to the supermarket and buy the same ingredients, including everything to build a base from scratch. Not only do you save money, but also cooking together and being creative is a sure-fire way to get closer to the ones we love, sharing in the mistakes we make and enjoying the fruits of our labour when everything is done.

There are also a ton of free and cheap attractions and activities that cannot only fill time bring us closer. Volunteering at an animal shelter, food bank or even donating blood together; these are all things that bring our good side and nothing warms the heart like seeing our significant others doing selfless acts of kindness. When you go home at the end of the day, you will see each other in a new light.

Depending on the weather, a trip to the beach costs nothing. Whether it is about laying on the sand or jumping in and swimming together, hanging out at the beach is an incredibly relaxing time and let’s us see the best bits of our loved ones, both metaphorically and physically.

These are just some easy, basic examples. When money is tight, just shake up your usual routine and get back to basics. You and your partner will weather the storm together and have a great time in the process.
